Moving to the San Francisco Bay Area

San Francisco’s Bay Area is an illustrious locale in which one of California’s foremost landmarks lives, the Golden Gate Bridge. In addition to being the home to California’s tech wonderland, Silicon Valley, the San Francisco Bay Area has other points of interest such as, the Golden Gate Park, Alcatraz Island, cable cars and lovely vintage Victorian homes for both residents and tourists to enjoy. This urban jungle is home to just under 90,000 residents and remains San Francisco’s hub on the West Coast.

Silicon Valley is filled with wildly successful tech executives and equally wild startups. You’ll have a hard time believing that this is a place where the most innovative minds in technology live. Most use their money in less extravagant ways instead of the more showier examples of Los Angeles or our east coast counterparts in New York. This is because Silicon Valley prioritizes peacefulness and spending their money in more subtle ways over the bustling energy that larger metropolitan areas are known for.

While it may remind you of Central Park, the Golden Gate Park is more intimate and on the perfect day, there are tons of things to do:

    • Maclaren Lodge: You can visit the Maclaren Lodge, once the home of John Maclaren, a 19th century caretaker of the park, it is now the administrative headquarters of the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department.
    • Running Trails: Golden Gate Park is a natural choice for tourists and Californian residents if you’re looking to do so some sightseeing. Where else could you view the shoreline and beautiful waterfalls? Golden Gate Park is a popular destination for events and campers so make sure you check beforehand before you visit.
    • Japanese Tea Garden: Is the oldest public Japanese garden in the United States and it’s located right in your backyard! The Japanese Tea Garden gives its visitors the opportunity to experience the natural beauty and tranquility of a Japanese-style garden. This includes classic Japanese architecture such as, an arched drum bridge, pagodas, stone paths and lanterns, Japanese plants, koi ponds and more! Here you are able to meditate, sip tea, dive into a photography session or purchase a souvenir at your leisure.

Whether you’re seeking creative outlets or just need some time to yourself, the Golden Gate Park offers natural amenities that every person can enjoy.

Another historic landmark to note is Alcatraz Island, aka “The Rock” or simply Alcatraz. This well known small island off of the San Francisco Bay is known as the federal prison where Al Capone, George “Machine Gun” Kelly and other infamous citizens were held from 1934 to 1963. Originally the first lighthouse-turned-military fort, Alcatraz became a military prison and finally a federal prison after it was purchased in 1849. Now, Alcatraz serves as a reminder for stories of American incarceration and justice.

If you’d like to enjoy some sightseeing around California, it’s never been easier than utilizing the San Francisco Bay Area cable cars to get around the bustling city. Choose from one of three starting destinations at Powell & Market, Bay & Taylor or Hyde and Beach Street. Our busy streets and steep hills make for an exciting ride around San Francisco. Be sure to hold on tight and don’t lean out the side!Men loading kayaks into a truck
